**ABU DHABI:** The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Public Prosecution on Thursday, March 14, 2024, ordered the arrest of 10 foreign nationals for sharing videos related to missile and drone interceptions, as well as disseminating misinformation through artificial intelligence.
According to official sources, the prosecution stated that such content could lead to “misleading the public and inciting fear” among citizens. Furthermore, authorities alleged that these actions undermine public confidence in the state and risk revealing sensitive military capabilities and defense strategies. The detainees reportedly include nationals from several Asian and African countries.
Based on reports from the UAE’s official news agency, the suspects are also accused of utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create and circulate “fabricated videos.” These clips allegedly depicted large-scale fires and damage to key historical landmarks across the country. Such acts are viewed by the state as a direct threat to national information security.
Under the UAE’s stringent Cybercrime Law, those found guilty face a minimum of one year in prison and a fine of at least 100,000 Dirhams (approximately $27,000).
