CAMBODIA FACILITATES ASEAN OBSERVER MISSION TO KOH KONG BORDER PILLAR

PHNOM PENH —On September 1, 2026, the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) coordinated a strategic field visit for the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) to Boundary Pillar No. 72 in Koh Kong Province. Led by the Head of Mission from the Philippines, the delegation conducted comprehensive verification and reporting at the agreed boundary marker situated in Cham Yeam Village, Mondol Seima District.

The mission aims to provide the ASEAN delegation with a direct understanding of the border dynamics between Cambodia and Thailand. This initiative reflects the Royal Government of Cambodia’s consistent policy of resolving territorial matters through peaceful dialogue and established bilateral mechanisms, such as the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), in strict accordance with international law.

The Ministry of National Defence emphasized Cambodia’s firm stance on safeguarding its international boundaries as inherited from historical conventions. By upholding the principle of ‘uti possidetis juris’ and the MOU 2000, Cambodia continues to prioritize regional stability and the peaceful settlement of disputes to ensure enduring harmony between neighboring states.
